Steven Blank eating a slice of cheese pizza at RéNapoli

Background Research

When I started this project, I knew I wanted to produce food reviews so I quickly started reading food reviews and learning what made a good food review. I refined my guiding questions (best slice and best pizzeria) as I continued research and eventually settled on my current goal after deciding a Greenwich pizza roundup would be fun and interesting. Pizza in particular is so fascinating because it’s a widely appreciated food and when comparing pizza, I thought the nuances of each slice would reveal what makes a great pizza. I began to specifically read pizza reviews and noticed a key difference in “white tablecloth restaurant” reviews and pizzeria reviews: fancy restaurant reviews were a lot longer and focused on many dishes vaguely while pizzeria reviews were brief but explored every aspect of the pizza’s taste. This scrutiny of pizza required a refined palette and deep understanding of pizza. That idea led me to look at different pizza recipes and caused me to start collecting data for my project (eating pizza) long before my reviews would be written.

Visiting Local Pizzerias

I’ve always been an avid pizza lover so before reviewing various pizzerias in Greenwich, I was knowledgeable about the Greenwich pizza scene. To make sure I knew all of the significant pizza places in Greenwich, I sent out a form to my classmates and asked them to list pizza places that they go to regularly. I then created a list of the ten most worthwhile places to visit. I went on one trip to each pizzeria but then decided to refine my list to only five pizzerias in Greenwich. These places are the best pizzerias in Greenwich and each is essential to my ranking for different reasons. I carefully took notes on each pizzeria and made multiple visits over the course of six weeks to each place. I made sure that I went to each pizzeria with a group so I could try more dishes. Presentation

To share my findings and reviews, I decided to speak to people directly, post reviews to well known review sharing website and create this site to share my reviews. I’m speaking to many people at the Genius Hours Fair at Greenwich High School and people will be able to see my reviews on Yelp and Google Reviews. Lastly, this entire website was built so I could share my findings with people and hear back from others using the comment sections for each review.
